At Jarrz Bars Waterford, we’re more than a sports and party venue – we’re a family business rooted in our community. That’s why we’re committed to running our bar ethically, sustainably, and with care for the
environment. From reducing waste to introducing new energy-efficient technology, we’re taking active steps to ensure that every pint poured has a lighter impact on the planet.
It’s our goal to:
- Minimise our environmental footprint and reduce carbon emissions year on year.
- Lower our energy and water usage while increasing efficiency.
- Make smarter purchasing choices to reduce waste and encourage recycling.
- Reuse, repurpose, and recycle wherever possible.
- Prevent emissions and waste that could damage our local environment.
We’re proud to say our efforts aren’t just about compliance – they’re about doing the right thing for our customers, our staff, and the community we call home.
How We’re Doing It
At Jarrz, sustainability runs through everything we do:
- Energy efficiency: LED lighting, smart controls, and “power-down” practices help us use less energy when the bar is closed.
- Recycling and waste reduction: We’ve cut down on single-use plastics, introduced sustainable garnishes (like dried fruit made in-house), and promote recycling across our venue. We use compostable straws, napkins
and beer mats, as well as food containers in our partnership with espresso. We use reusable cloths and rags to cut down on single use blu-roll and j-cloths.
- Smarter water use: We monitor water consumption closely and have upgraded to more efficient glass washers, taps, and flush systems. We also turn off the ice machine when not in use, and bag off any spare ice and
put it into a more energy efficient freezer to cut back on water waste and energy consumption. - Innovation at the bar: Thanks to Philip’s Pour My Beer self-serve drinks system, we reduce waste from over-pouring and improve efficiency, while giving customers a unique, interactive experience.
- Continuous training and up-skilling: We are constantly learning new ways to improve efficiency and adopt greener practices in our bar. This includes training staff to be mindful of waste.
